Swedish Agency for Financial and Administrative Legal Services
(Kammarkollegiet)

This is the Swedish Ministry where all sworn translators and interpreters in Sweden are registered. There are two directories, one for translators and one for interpreters.

Sworn Translators in Sweden

This association of sworn translators is made up of professional linguists who translate from Swedish or into Swedish. Its translators are certified by an official Sweden official agency or department.

Sworn translations, also known as official or certified translations, include the translator’s signature, his or her identification details, a stamp and a certificate stating that the original document has been faithfully translated into or from Swedish. This type of service is usually required for the translation of official documents, notarial deeds, patents, contracts, company statutes or academic certificates to be submitted before an agency, court or academic institution.

The current Swedish association of sworn translators is located in Stockholm (Sweden) and the translations signed by its members are acknowledged and officially accepted in Sweden and other countries.

Professional Interpreters for Swedish

The interpreters of this association are focused on spoken translation between Swedish and other languages. There are several methods of interpretation: simultaneous, conference, liaison or whispered. “Swedish Agency for Financial and Administrative Legal Services” provides a directory of Swedish interpreters  who are available to offer their services in Sweden. The head office is in Stockholm, but the interpreters work all over Sweden. Interpreters often work for international organisations such as the European Parliament, the UN or NATO. Swedish interpreters are also needed in hospitals, at trade fairs or at international summits where political leaders meet.

Simultaneous Swedish interpretation is needed at conferences, on television or at any event where participants need to understand a speaker in real time and without interruptions. The special thing about this is that technical equipment such as booths, microphones and headphones are required.

In consecutive interpreting, Swedish interpreters interrupt the speaker and translate the speech one chunk at a time. They can be seen, for example, at informal press conferences, which are often improvised and do not have the necessary equipment.

And finally there is the so-called whispered interpretation between Swedish and other languages, where the interpreter acts as an intermediary in a conversation between two people and translates in a low voice.
