Association of Professional Translators for the Dutch / French language. Translators are professional linguists who perform written translations, as opposed to oral or spoken translation, which is done by interpreters. In this type of associations we usually find translators specializing in many fields: technical, legal, medical, pharmaceutical and scientific. We might also find sworn/official translators who have been authorized by a Belgian agency or department.
Dutch / French translators are mostly freelancers working from home for their own clients or for translation agencies. They sometimes team up with other Dutch / French and other language translators and proofreaders to expand their range of services. Professional Interpreters for Dutch / French
The interpreters of this association are focused on spoken translation between Dutch / French and other languages. There are several methods of interpretation: simultaneous, conference, liaison or whispered. “Belgian Chamber of Translators and Interpreters” provides a directory of Dutch/French interpreters who are available to offer their services in Belgium. The head office is in Brussels, but the interpreters work all over Belgium. Interpreters often work for international organisations such as the European Parliament, the UN or NATO. Dutch / French interpreters are also needed in hospitals, at trade fairs or at international summits where political leaders meet.
Simultaneous Dutch/French interpretation is needed at conferences, on television or at any event where participants need to understand a speaker in real time and without interruptions. The special thing about this is that technical equipment such as booths, microphones and headphones are required.
